Track 5 provides attendees with a good understanding of power quality and reliability distribution devices, namely, power capacitors, voltage regulators and automatic circuit reclosers. This course exposes students to most major brands of equipment including Eaton-Cooper, GE, Siemens, SEL, ICMI, S&C and T&B (Fisher-Pierce). Hands on exercises provide the opportunity for interface with devices in a safe laboratory atmosphere. The educational format is a non-commercial blend of lecture and interactive exercises with instruction provided by industry experts from utilities, manufacturers, and utility service companies.
This track is designed for both Technicians and Engineers who deal with distribution control apparatus. Current and future industry trends point to an increasing application of VVO (Volt-Var Optimization) in distribution networks as well as an increase in distribution automation. Knowledge of operation and failure modes of regulators, capacitor banks and reclosers is essential for personnel designing or maintaining such automated distribution systems.
